Sumario: | The fast simulation of the CMS, which is a collection of Monte Carlo simulations used to reconstruct the physics of the events in the detector, treats the time of flight calculation for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter in a simplified manner. It does not account for the size of the LHC interaction region and the different trajectories between electrically charged and neutral particles. This project is oriented towards exploring the properties of the times of flight of electrically charged and neutral particles inside the CMS that are detected by the electromagnetic calorimeter, and concluding whether the physics results would benefit from the input of a time analysis consideration for the electromagnetic calorimeter in the CMS fast simulation. The resolution of the calorimeter and the difference in the time of flight of the electrically charged and neutral particles are considered. |
