Measurements of the WW and combined WW / WZ producton cross sections in √ s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector and limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings

A measurement of the W W production cross section using the W W fully leptonic decays in 4.64 fb−1 of 7 TeV pp collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector is presented. \nThe measured total cross section is σ ( p p → W W ) = 51.9 ± 2.0 (st at .) ± 3.9(syst .) ± 0.9(lumi.)pb, consitent with the Stand...

Sumario:A measurement of the W W production cross section using the W W fully leptonic decays in 4.64 fb−1 of 7 TeV pp collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector is presented. \nThe measured total cross section is σ ( p p → W W ) = 51.9 ± 2.0 (st at .) ± 3.9(syst .) ± 0.9(lumi.)pb, consitent with the Standard Model prediciton of 44.7 ± 2.8pb. The normalized W W production cross section within a fiducial phase space is also measured as a function of the leading lepton transverse momentum. Limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings are derived based on the leading lepton transverse momentum distribution in the W W leptonic decay events. Also presented is a measurement of the combined W W ad W Z production cross section using their experimentally undistinguishable common semi-leptonic final state of l ν q ¯q with the same dataset. The combined cross section is measured to be σ (W W + W Z ) = 72 ± 9(st at .) ± 15(syst . ⊕ l umi.) ± 13(MC st at .)pb, compatible with the Standard Model expectation of 63.4 ± 2.6pb.
