Determination of the Higgs boson spin at ATLAS
In 2012 ATLAS and CMS collaborations announced the discovery of a new resonance in the search for the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. The next step is the experimental determination of its properties in order to understand if it’s the SM Higgs Boson or “someone” beyond. This presentation will resum...

description | In 2012 ATLAS and CMS collaborations announced the discovery of a new resonance in the search for the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. The next step is the experimental determination of its properties in order to understand if it’s the SM Higgs Boson or “someone” beyond. This presentation will resume the state of the art of the ATLAS studies of the spin/parity (JP) quantum numbers of the new boson, due to its production and decay nature, is a neutral boson. To distinguishing between different hypotheses, including that from the Standard Model, ATLAS relies on discriminant observables chosen to be sensitive to the spin and parity of the signal for each channel considered, using data recorded in 2011 and 2012. |
