Today, CEP is therefore the first choice technology for analyzing massive event streams to detect user-defined situations of interest in near real-time such that actions can be taken immediately. In this talk, we first provide a brief summary of the status-quo of event processing. Then, we introduce the Java Event Processing Connectivity (JEPC), the first middleware offering uniform CEP functionality in Java. JEPC provides always the same API and query language for CEP completely independent of CEP systems beneath. In addition, JEPC allows adding new building blocks extending the capabilities of the CEP systems. Among them is for example a flexible matchmaker that automatically connects event sources to   event processing agents. </p> <h4>About the speaker</h4> <p align="justify"> Dr. Seeger is a Professor for Database Systems at the University of Marburg. He has been a pioneer in spatial and temporal database technology for more than 20 years. He has been the head of the XXL project team that develops a flexible and extensible open-source Java library with advanced indexing and query processing components. Since 10 years, he has extended his research focus to stream and complex event processing.  He is a co-founder of RTM, an award-winning university spinoff focused on stream processing and since 2010 owned by Software AG. His recent research is on the development of an event processing infrastructure on top of a unifying middleware. Currently, he is also working on lean database libraries to support scientific applications. </p>
