Simultaneous cross section measurements of high-$p_T$ electron-muon final state processes from proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV using the ATLAS detector

Sumario:Simultaneous measurements of the $t\bar{t}$, $W^+ W^-$, and $Z/\gamma^\ast \rightarrow \tau\tau$ production cross sections using 4.6 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV are presented. Events are selected to contain a high transverse momentum electron and muon of opposite charge. A maximum likelihood fit to data in a parameter space constructed from missing transverse momentum and jet multiplicity is performed to extract both the total and fiducial cross sections. Another feature unique to this measurement technique is the ability to compare correlations between pairs of cross sections. Correlations in the theoretical cross sections enter through the proton parton distribution functions used.
