description | <!--HTML-->"The results today are only possible because of the extraordinary performance of the accelerators, including the infrastructure, the experiments, and the Grid computing." These were the words of the CERN Director General Rolf Heuer when the observation of a new particle consistent with a Higgs Boson was revealed to the world on the 4th July 2012. The end result of the all investments made to build and operate the LHC is the data that are recorded and the knowledge that can be extracted. It is the role of the global computing infrastructure to unlock the value that is encapsulated in the data. This lecture provides a detailed overview of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, an international collaboration to distribute and analyse the LHC data.
