description The Z' boson is a heavier version of the well-known Z boson which belongs to the Grand Unified Theory framework (GUT). GUT is a model for particle physics which aims at unifiying the three Gauge interactions within the Standard Model: electromagnetic, weak and strong interactions. There exist several theories Beyond the Standard Model which predict different Z' bosons, among these a model of a U(1) gauge symmetry, Little Higgs models and Kaluza-Klein models. Finding Z' would give insights into the mechanism which provides mass, to extra dimensions and to the origin of Dark Matter. The CMS collaboration has been looking for Z' since 2011. This report will outline a summer project consisting of data analysis in search of a Z' at 8 TeV, to be extended to 13 TeV.
