However the interpretation of LHC results has for the purposes of model-independence and ease of comparison to other experiments so far mainly been done in an effective field theory framework which integrates out the mediator under the assumption it is heavier than the scale of the interaction, which is not necessarily a valid assumption at the LHC. This report presents a reinterpretation of 10.5 fb$^{-1}$ of ATLAS 8 TeV data in terms of so-called simplified models which introduce model-independent mediators as degrees of freedom that can be taken into consideration when setting limits, together with a study of the expected limits that can be set with the first 20 fb$^{-1}$ of data from the 14 TeV LHC.
