Sumario:A measurement of the $\rm{W}$ boson production differential cross section in proton-proton collisions as a function of the $\rm{W}$ boson transverse momentum is reported. The $\rm{W}$ bosons are identified via their decay to leptons and neutrinos. The analysis is based on a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $18.4~\pm0.5~\rm{pb^{-1}}$. The measured cross section is compared to three theoretical predictions: (1) ResBos, a next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic/next-to-leading-order quantum chromodynamics (QCD) calculation with resummation, (2) $\rm{POWHEG}$, a next-to-leading-order QCD calculation, and (3) FEWZ, a next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD calculation. The predictions of all three calculations are in agreement with the experimental measurement within uncertainties, but can deviate from the data in some regions by up to 20$\%$.
