Analysis of the dependency of lepton selection on pileup with respect to the search for supersymmetry in dilepton events at CMS

In this bachelor thesis, the effects of pileup on the lepton selection are studied on simulated√datasets for different pileup scenarios at s = 13 TeV. For this matter, different quantitiesused in the lepton selection and in analyses are tested with regard to their dependencieson pileup. Additionally, t...

description In this bachelor thesis, the effects of pileup on the lepton selection are studied on simulated√datasets for different pileup scenarios at s = 13 TeV. For this matter, different quantitiesused in the lepton selection and in analyses are tested with regard to their dependencieson pileup. Additionally, the trigger efficiencies of dilepton triggers are benchmarked. After understanding the effects of pileup on the datasets, a method of predicting flavorsymmetric standard model backgrounds that is used in a search for supersymmetry atCMS is presented and performed. The results of the background prediction are comparedto the actual numbers of same-flavor events to test the reliability of said method and arefound to be in good agreement.
