Sumario:The upgraded LHCb detector will run at an instantaneous luminosity of 2 X 10$^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, five times higher than in the current configuration, and will have a full 40 MHz readout. In order to cope with these higher instantaneous rates, the tracking detector upstream of the LHCb dipole magnet, called Tracker Turicensis (TT) [1], will be replaced by the Upstream Tracker (UT) [2]. The conceptual design of the UT and the current status of the R&D are presented here.
