Measurements of event shapes and particle production with the ATLAS detector

Measurements of event shapes, particle production and their correlations with the ATLAS detector The evolution of the event shape variables, such as the transverse thrust, thrust minor and transverse sphericity have been studied for minimum bias events as a function of momentum scale. In addition the high-energy pp collisions at the LHC provide unique opportunity to study particle flow and event shapes of the hadronic final state particles. The measurements of production properties of mesons and baryons at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV using pp collision data collected with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented and compared to predictions. The measurement of the differential production cross section of the $\phi$(1020)-meson as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity is presented. In addition the measurement of transverse polarization of $\Lambda$ and${\bar \Lambda}$ hyperons produced in minimum bias events is presented. The polarization is measured in bins of the transverse momentum and Feynman-x variable and in the experimentally accessible phase space it is found to be consistent with zero, as predicted by the Standard Model.
