Heavy quark production at the CERN p$\overline{p}$ collider

Measurements on heavy-flavour production in proton-antiproton interactions at 630 GeV centre-of-mass energy are reviewed. Sumario:Measurements on heavy-flavour production in proton-antiproton interactions at 630 GeV centre-of-mass energy are reviewed. A summary of perturbative QCD predictions for heavy-quark production in hadronic reactions is followed by a survey of Monte Carlo models. The collider detectors UA1, UA2, CDF and D0 are described and techniques of heavy-quark detection are considered. Results from the UA1 experiment on quarkonium, open charm and bottom production and on B 0 -B̄ 0 mixing are presented and the search for the top quark is described. The design of detectors dedicated to bottom studies at hadron colliders is discussed.
