Double parton scattering studies via di-boson processes using the CMS detector at LHC

description In high energy hadron-hadron collision, there is a finite probability for Double Parton Scattering (DPS), i.e., simultaneous occurrence of two short-range parton-parton scatterings in a single collision producing the same final state as in a single parton scattering (SPS). It is important to have an estimate of the DPS fraction as well as the effective cross section for specific final states in proton-proton collisions at LHC. We present the study of DPS in proton-proton collisions recorded by the CMS experiment at center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV using the same-sign W boson pair, where both W decay leptonically. Using generator level simulations, and for only electrons and muons in the final state, observables sensitive to DPS and that can discriminate against SPS have been investigated. Discussions about the kinematics of DPS events as well as results from such a study will be presented in the talk.
