Commissioning the performance of key observables used in SUSY searches with the first 13 TeV data

Searches for supersymmetry target a wide spectrum of signatures involving combinations of jets, leptons, photons, and missing transverse energy. Dominating standard model backgrounds to these searches are typically estimated using data. This note documents comparisons of the distributions of key observables between simulation and first data taken at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, and the validation of several background estimation methods with this early data set.
