Herwig: The Evolution of a Monte Carlo Simulation

<!--HTML-->Monte Carlo event generation has seen significant developments in the last 10 years starting with preparation for the LHC and then during the first LHC run. I will discuss the basic ideas behind Monte Carlo event generators and then go on to discuss these developments, focussing on the developments in Herwig(++) event generator. I will conclude by presenting the current status of event generation together with some results of the forthcoming new version of Herwig, Herwig 7.
