Sumario:High pT and jet measurements critically rely on the determination of jet energy scale and resolution from data-based measurements. Too often dismissed as technical calibrations, these are full-blown physics analyses that deal with the same issues as other physics measurements, but with arguably higher level of precision. Both CMS and ATLAS have developed several novel techniques for addressing JES and JER in Run I, including underlying Particle Flow algorithm and Global Sequential Calibration, and have both achieved better than 1pct precision on JES. They also address important issues such as JES flavor dependence and pileup subtraction in the high luminosity LHC environment.
