description Due to the overwhelming rate of data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider, a preselection system is necessary to reduce it to a size manageable by our available computing resources. This is done by the trigger system which performs a fast filtering of events to be saved by running a version of the event reconstruction algorithm optimized for the fast online environment. In this thesis, the inclusive single lepton triggers are studied and optimized for CMS Run 2 data-taking, which focuses on events containing at least one isolated muon or electron, within the context of physics involving top quarks.
