Search for SSM W' production, in the lepton+MET final state at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV

This note presents the search for new physics in events with an electron or muon and missing transverse energy, using 2.2 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV, collected by the CMS detector during 2015. The focus is set on the potential production of a W' boson, as described by...

description This note presents the search for new physics in events with an electron or muon and missing transverse energy, using 2.2 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV, collected by the CMS detector during 2015. The focus is set on the potential production of a W' boson, as described by the Sequential Standard Model (SSM). No evidence of an excess relative to the Standard Model expectation is observed and upper limits at 95$\%$ confidence level are set on the production cross section times branching fractions of the SSM W' boson, which are translated into lower limits for the new boson mass. For a SSM W' signal masses below 4.4 TeV are excluded when both the electron and muon final decay channels are combined together. These results significantly extend previously published limits.
