Tau identification for Run-2 and its performance with 2015 data

description | The CMS hadrons-plus-strips (HPS) algorithm that was developed to reconstruct tau leptons in their hadronic decays demonstrated a good performance in the LHC Run-1; the algorithm achieves an identification efficiency of 50--60$\mathrm{\%}$ with a probability for quark and gluon jets, electrons, and muons to be misidentified as $\tau$~lepton between per cent and per mille levels. In this note improvements to the HPS algorithm for the LHC Run-2 are presented. The performance is evaluated with a sample of pp collisions recorded at $\mathrm{\sqrt{s}=13}$~TeV in 2015. The data sample corresponds to a total integrated luminosity of 2.3~$\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$. |
