Search for new physics in a lepton plus high jet multiplicity final state with the ATLAS experiment using sqrt(s) = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data

Sumario:A search for new physics in final states characterized by high jet multiplicity, an isolated lepton (electron or muon) and either zero or at least three b-tagged jets is presented. The search uses 14.8 fb−1of sqrt(s) = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in 2015 and 2016. The background is estimated by extrapolating a template of the b-tagged jet multiplicity, obtained at medium jet multiplicity, to the higher jet multiplicities used in the search. No significant excess of events is observed over the background expectation and 95% confidence level limits are extracted constraining supersymmetric models where the gluino is pair-produced, and decays to a pair of top quarks and jets through the R-parity violating decay of either the neutralino into three quarks or the top squark into a b- and an s- quark. In addition model-independent limits are set on the contribution of new phenomena to the signal region yields of up to 8 fb at 95% confidence level.
