description | In this thesis the mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of t¯ candidate events with at√muon and at least four jets in the final state, collected by CMS in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV atthe LHC. The candidate events are selected from data corresponding to an integrated luminosityof 2.2 fb− 1. For each event the mass of the top quark candidates is reconstructed from a kinematic fit on the decay products to a t¯ hypothesis. The top quark mass is determined simultanetously with a jet energy scale factor, estimated from the invariant mass of the W boson candidate. This results in a top quark mass of mt = 172.34 ± 0.37 (stat+JSF) ± 1.02 (syst) GeV. |
