Sumario: | The first station of the forward muon spectrometer of ATLAS will be replaced by a new technology developed by RD51 and ATLAS: the resistive anode MicroMegas. After many tests on the performance of MM detectors the Phase I upgrade of the Muon Spectrometer has been approved and the mass production is started this year. Moreover in view of the ATLAS Phase II Upgrade, a proposal to extend the detector acceptance of the muon system to large η (up to |η|~4) is being considered to enhance “physics” performance. The aim of the new detector is to tag muons, relying on the combination with the inner detector track for the momentum measurement. In order to minimize the occupancy, pixel or small pad readout are needed. Micro-Pattern-Gaseous-Detectors is a suitable technology for this purpose. The developments of resistive anode MM for Phase I and the tests started on various O(mm2) pad readout aiming at precision tracking in high rate environment without efficiency loss up to several MHz/cm2 is presented. |
