description | This addendum provides additional information and clarification requested by the SPS Committee in response to our previously submitted Beam Time Request (CERN-SPSC-2017-031 [SPSC-P-356]). The ARIADNE research programme is based around developing an optical readout system for use in LAr TPC detectors, which could potentially have a number of benefits over the currently used segmented anode planes - particularly in matters of scalability for future kilo-tonne scale detectors, ease of installation, use and maintenance, and reconstruction resolution. As detailed in our previously submitted Letter of Intent (CERN-SPSC-2016-008 [SPSC-I-244]), ARIADNE itself is a 1-tonne, two-phase LAr TPC detector, designed and built at the University of Liverpool, which uses an array of EMCCD cameras as its optical readout system, alongside PMTs for scintillation light observation and a segmented THGEM for charge readout. |
