Sumario:The transverse-momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) differential production cross section of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavour hadron decays has been measured in the interval $0.5 < p_{\rm T} < 4.0$ GeV/$c$ at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.8$) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. Statistical and systematic uncertainties have been reduced by a factor of about three with respect to previously published results. Predictions from a fixed order perturbative QCD calculation with next-to-leading-log resummation describe the data within theoretical and experimental uncertainties.
