Fragmentation of ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ in jets in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$

The fragmentation of jets containing a ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ meson is studied in 5.02~TeV pp data using an integrated luminosity of ${\cal L} = 27.39~\mathrm{pb^{-1}}$. The fraction of the jet transverse momentum $p_{\rm T,jet}$ carried by the ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-...

description The fragmentation of jets containing a ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ meson is studied in 5.02~TeV pp data using an integrated luminosity of ${\cal L} = 27.39~\mathrm{pb^{-1}}$. The fraction of the jet transverse momentum $p_{\rm T,jet}$ carried by the ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ is measured for prompt ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ and ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ coming from b hadron decays, named nonprompt. Whereas the fragmentation function of nonprompt ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ is well-modeled by simulations using a Monte Carlo generator, the prompt ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$ are found to be accompanied by a larger level of jet activity. The fraction of \Jpsi mesons that are produced inside a jet is also reported, and found to be larger in data than in simulation, for both prompt and nonprompt ${\rm J}\hspace{-.08em}/\hspace{-.14em}\psi$.
