Towards a measurement of pPb → $\text{t}\bar{\text{t}}$ differential cross sections with the CMS detector

The feasibility of measuring pPb → $\text{t}\bar{\text{t}}$ differential cross sections using proton-lead data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 174 $\text{nb}^{-1}$ collected by the CMS experiment at CERN at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 8.16 TeV was studied. In order to max...

description The feasibility of measuring pPb → $\text{t}\bar{\text{t}}$ differential cross sections using proton-lead data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 174 $\text{nb}^{-1}$ collected by the CMS experiment at CERN at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 8.16 TeV was studied. In order to maximize the information extracted from a low statistics sample, we explore modern statistical techniques and show that differential cross section measurements are well in reach with the current amount of data collected.
