Sumario: | With the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider and with new search-es challenging the limits of the current collider, an upgrade of the LHC to the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) has been planned. One of the consequences of this upgrade is a need to replace some of the CMS muons detectors by GEM (Gas Electron Multiplier) detectors. Because of their working, these detectors can be damaged by discharges. This project investigates a way to reduce the probability of such destructive events by reducing the induction field of the detectors. The effect of this action on the performances of the detector (and especially the gain) is also studied. |
