Sumario: | Towards the effort to produce new refractory element beams, a gas system for the test with thin targets at ISOLDE has been built. The gas system facilitates the gas injection, transportation and purification of carbon monoxide from oxygen and water contaminants. Preliminary studies using a residual gas analyzer (RGA, quadrupole mass spectrometer) show a reduction of the oxygen concentration in carbon monoxide from 61 ppm down to 6.5 ppm with single stage filter. The gas system and the RGA have been set up and are ready for further tests on impurities after multi-lass filtering by gas circulation. Two minor projects are also reported: the temperature calibration of a new uranium thermocarbo-reduction unit and the adaptation of the high voltage interlock for a high purity germanium detector to support a new high voltage power supply module at ISOLDE tape station. |
