description | This note reports radiation calculations referring to the upgraded ALICE detector after the second Long Shutdown (LS2). The simulations are obtained using the FLUKA transport code and take into account the recently measured multiplicities of Pb-Pb, p-Pb and pp collisions. The dose and particle fluence numbers for interaction point (IP) and beam-gas collisions are given and a failure case due to misinjected beams is considered as well. An upper limit of 10$^{-9}$ mbar will be required for the vacuum pressure in the LHC long straight sections around IP2 in order to limit the beam-gas background. This note also provides some simple estimates of dose and fluence for IP collisions based on the measured charged-particle multiplicity ${\rm d}N_{\rm ch}/{\rm d}\eta$, which are compared to the detailed simulations. |
