Sumario: | The following work concerns with a study of the transition to the high temperature β-phase of the multiferroic, magnetoelectric perowskite bismuth ferrite (BiF eO3, simplied BF O) via the perturbed angular correlation (PAC) method. With measurements at different temperatures and by using a six detector PAC setup to observe the decay of the 111mCd probe nucleus, the phase transition temperature and the change of the lattice structure and its parameters was supervised. Results show the expected volume contraction caused by a change of the cristal structure, observed through an increase of the quadrupole frequency ω0 at the α − β phase change temperature of about TC = 825◦C. |
