description
gRPC is a modern open source high performance RPC framework being developed (mostly) at Google following a fully open source model. In this talk I'll go over the challenges we faced -both technically and organizationally- in developing an open source project at a big corporation, balancing the internal proprietary use with the external open source, in addition to having to support many different platforms, not just the few official ones internally supported.

About the speaker

David Garcia Quintas has been a senior software engineer at Google's HQ in Silicon Valley for the past six years as part of Google Research's AI team as well as the gRPC team, Google's open source RPC framework. Before joining Google David was at CERN as Summer Student in 2005, Technical Student in 2006-2007 and Fellow in 2008-2010, working on the SPS Controls as well as the PS Complex renovation. Following CERN, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California.
