description A summary of results relevant for searches of phenomena beyond the Standard Model (SM) obtained by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is presented. Prospects towards Run 3 and High Luminosity LHC are reported where available. Most results are based on an integrated luminosity of 36 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.
