description Precise measurements of the spectral composition of the radiation present in and around the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) cavern located on the LHC experiment are essential to determine the operation of the sub-detector systems and to predict their useful lifetimes. The key objective of the CMS-Medipix network is to evaluate this mixed radiation field - especially of the slow and fast neutrons. This would be implemented by using a network of Medipix3RX hybrid pixel detectors, at seven locations in the CMS cavern. The measured values are validated with the Monte Carlo calculations. The mixed-field radiation present around the CMS-MPX detectors was studied using FOCUS, a CMS FLUKA tool. The energy distribution of neutron was analysed to observe the various neutron energies present in the cavern. The flux values obtained from FOCUS were seen to be in good agreement with those obtained from standard FLUKA methods. The CMS-MPX neutron detector consisting of the sensor layer bonded to Medipix ASIC was modelled with different neutron conversion layers (lithium fluoride (LiF) and polypropylene (PP)). The response and the detection efficiency of these conversion layers to the neutron energy were studied and optimised. A cluster analysis algorithm used to detect the track signature left by charged particle produced in the neutron interaction was developed. Presented here is the comprehensive scope of this work; its status and the results obtained so far.
