Sumario:After the discovery of the Higgs boson, which completes the Standard Model, the research at CERN, The European Organization for Nu- clear Research is now steered towards understanding the properties of the Higgs and simultaneously searching for new Physics beyond the frontiers of the currently known. Producing more data became a pri- ority for CERN, therefore several projects were developed, targeting essentially the increase of the collision rate at the Large Hadron Col- lider (LHC). To achieve a higher collision rate, the accelerators should produce beams with higher brightness, which is limited particularly by the space charge in each of the LHC injector chain. This thesis focuses on studing the space charge limitations in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) and proposing solutions to the iden- tified limitations. In the first part of the thesis, the main space charge limitations are identified. The second part focuses on the limitation due the Qy = 6.25 resonance line and its nature. In the third part, a mitigation to the Qy = 6.25 resonance line is proposed, as well as mitigations to other observed limitations.
