description The European Particle Physics Strategy Update 2020 discusses what Europe, taking into account the worldwide particle physics landscape, sees as the highest priorities for particle physics research in the coming decades. A wide spectrum of proposals and opportunities are examined to explore the basic building blocks of matter, the structure of time and space, and with it the origins of our Universe. Large-scale facilities will be required to deepen our understanding and to open new paths for future research. The duration of the planning, construction, commissioning, and operation stages of these facilities, regardless of which candidates are selected and prioritised, will span many decades. The execution of these programmes thus relies heavily on support from key stakeholders and decision makers, including politicians, funding agencies and, underlying all, the public. Furthermore, the success of such large-scale projects depends heavily on the talents of a skilled, enthusiastic, and diverse new generation of physicists, engineers, and developers. The International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), a collaboration of 30 countries, major experiments in the field, and CERN, has built a world-wide education and outreach programme that is uniquely situated to address and inspire the current, and more importantly, the next generation of scientific talent, stakeholders, and the public. This talk will highlight the challenges particle physics education and outreach will need to address to ensure that these future projects are not only technically possible, but that they become global collaborative endeavours with the full support of society.
