description | The magnetic monopoles are, among other theoretical arguments, motivated by the electric-magnetic symmetry of the Maxwell equations and the quantisation of the electric charge. The Large Hadron Collider offers an ideal opportunity to produce and detect these hypothetical particles in the low-mass regime. General-purpose experiments, such as ATLAS, as well as ones dedicated to the search for (meta-)stable particles, such as MoEDAL, complement each other in this quest. Resent search results from both experiments will be presented. Plans for looking for trapped magnetic monopoles in the decommissioned CMS beam pipe will be also discussed. |
