Sumario: | Gaseous detector performance significantly depends on the composition and stability of gas mixtures. Therefore, studies on gas composition are essential to ensure the long-term efficiency and safe operation of the detectors. In particular, Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors can be operated with a gas mixture of Ar/CO2/CF4 in fractions of 45/15/40. This ratio must be kept stable in order to guarantee reliable operation. At high levels of irradiation, the Freon gas molecules (CF4) can break into CF3 and F-, potentially damaging the detector. In this report, studies on triple-GEM gas composition variation are presented. |
