A new approach for detecting Long-Lived Particles with the ATLAS detector

Many models beyond the Standard Model predict the existence of new particles with long lifetimes, the so called Long-Lived Particles (LLP). The decay of such particles inside the ATLAS inner detector could generate jets with a high number of clusters not associated to tracks. In this report we study...

Sumario:Many models beyond the Standard Model predict the existence of new particles with long lifetimes, the so called Long-Lived Particles (LLP). The decay of such particles inside the ATLAS inner detector could generate jets with a high number of clusters not associated to tracks. In this report we study the average number of cluster associated and not associated to tracks in the ATLAS inner detector for a set of data from RUN2 and for a Monte Carlo (MC) simulating events with LLPs from the decay of a heavy Higgs-like particle.
