The Lifetime Frontier: Search for displaced hadronic jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

This analysis is a search for the decay of neutral, weakly-interacting, long-lived particles using the ATLAS detector. description This analysis is a search for the decay of neutral, weakly-interacting, long-lived particles using the ATLAS detector. The search uses a new, model-independent strategy, and employs a custom trigger for reconstructing displaced hadronic jets in the muon spectrometer with 36.1 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of p-p collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV collected in 2015-2016. The results are interpreted in terms of three benchmark models. A Higgs scalar portal model is used to probe the existence of a hidden sector that weakly couples to the standard model. This analysis provides the first LHC exploration of models of neutral naturalness, which are generic extensions to hidden valley portal models. Secondly, a Higgs boson-mediated Baryogenesis model addresses the origin of matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe while theoretically connecting the new physics to the weak-scale hierarchy problem. Finally, a Stealth SUSY model is used, which is an R-parity-conserving SUSY model that does not have a large MET signature.
