Sumario: | Particles beyond the standard model can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at the LHC at CERN, these long-lived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the primary proton-proton interaction, or even completely pass through the detector before decaying. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly-decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC. These LLP analyses often require customized techniques to collect, reconstruct, and analyze the data. These proceedings present an overview of Run~2 searches for LLPs at ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb, as well as some idea of what can be expected from LLP searches at the High-Luminosity LHC. |
