Search for the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi \overline{K}^{*0}$

The purpose of this study is analysing the decay channel $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi \overline{K}^{*0}$ using data samples collected by the LHCb at CERN during the 2011 and 2012 runs. With a luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$ and a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV in 2011 and 2 fb$^{-1}$ and 8 TeV in 2012, the num...

description The purpose of this study is analysing the decay channel $B_s^0 \rightarrow \phi \overline{K}^{*0}$ using data samples collected by the LHCb at CERN during the 2011 and 2012 runs. With a luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$ and a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV in 2011 and 2 fb$^{-1}$ and 8 TeV in 2012, the number of events of this decay was of $39.5 \pm 8.2$ in 2011 and $55\pm11$ in 2012, with significances of $5.70\sigma$ and $5.52\sigma$, respectively. Furthermore, the branching fraction of this decay and the ratio between it and the branching fraction of $B_d^0 \rightarrow \phi K^{*0}$ were calculated, resulting in $\mathcal{B}({B_s^0\rightarrow\phi\overline{K}^{*0}}) = (0.88 \pm 0.15)\cdot10^{-6}$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}({B_s^0\rightarrow\phi\overline{K}^{*0}})}{\mathcal{B}({B_d^0\rightarrow\phi K^{*0}})} = 0.088 \pm 0.014$. These results are compared to those established by the standard model and to those obtained previously by the LHCb collaboration. This is the best measurement of this magnitude achieved so far, taking into account solely the statistical uncertainties.
