Timing for the ATLAS Phase-II Upgrade

description | The high pileup at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will be a challenge for the event reconstructions. A timing detector is proposed for ATLAS in order to mitigate the pileup in the forward region: the High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD). HGTD covers a pseudo-rapidity range from 2.4 to 4.0 and target a time resolution of 30 to 50 ps per track. HGTD combines Low Gain Avalanche Diodes (LGAD) and ASIC to achieve this time resolution. Preliminary performances obtained in lab and in dedicated test beam campaigns are described as well as the overall status of HGTD design. |
