Installation of absorber and scraper units in the PS Booster (PSB)

Sumario:The current main aperture limitation of the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) is the socalled Window Beam Scope (WBS, BRr.WBS8L2), installed inside the so-called vacuum manifold (BR.MBLS8L2) in sector 8L2 of the PSB ring. In the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project, more intense and brighter beams will lead to potentially more harmful losses. As a mitigation measure, a new collimation/scraping Beam Intercepting Device (BID), the new PSB absorber/scraper (LTSA, BR.LTSA8L4), will replace the WBS as the main aperture limitation. The LTSA is composed of 4 independent absorbing/scraping units (BR1.TSA8L4, BR2.TSA8L4, BR3.TSA8L4 and BR4.TSA8L4). The installation of the LTSA in sector 8L4 is at the location where a Beam Scope bumper (BR.DBSV/H8L4) is currently placed. The exchange activities are planned to be performed during the LS2.
