The ions passing such a foil loose additional electrons. From the source at the beginning of the Linac3 we get lead with the charge state of 29+. After the stripper we obtain lead with a charge state of 54+. Then this beam moves on to LEIR. All the other electrons are removed in the TT2 line between PS and SPS, so that in the SPS and the LHC we get bare nuclei (lead 82+).CERN-PHOTO-202011-152oai:cds.cern.ch:27445782020 |
