Sumario:The High Luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) will provide new challenges to the ATLAS tracker. The current Inner Detector will be replaced with an all-silicon tracker consisting of a Pixel detector surrounded by a Strip detector. After several years of technical developments the construction of the detector is now starting. The paper reviews the expected perfomance of the detector and the readiness for the its construction.
