Sumario:CMS team working on new endcap control electronics, part of the larger Phase 1 Front End Electronics upgrade for the CMS Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL). The HCAL measures the energies of quark-based particles from LHC collisions by detecting light produced by the interaction of the particles with scintillator tiles. The pictured electronics orchestrate the data acquisition, and control another feature of the HCAL upgrade: the first large-scale use of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) in a collider experiment. SiPMs are small, radiation resistant light detectors.
