description Third-integer slow extraction is a commonly used extraction technique for a variety of ap- plications where long and stable spills are needed. The process of extracting, transporting and even splitting the beam before reaching the user inevitably result in beam loss. In this thesis di↵erent optimisation studies are conducted, primarily aimed at reducing losses for extracting, transporting and splitting the beam. Beam loss reduction techniques are investigated and, where possible, implemented at two operational facilities: the MedAus- tron synchrotron and the North Area Transfer Tunnel 20 beam line at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron.
