description <!--HTML-->Carrying out research at the forefront of medical science with the use of distributed computing resources poses a number of unique challenges related to securely managing, integrating, storing and accessing data. The authors present their experience in developing a distributed computational environment for a range of studies in the area of computational medicine, with particular focus on how the environment - and its users - treat the underlying data, both with respect to inputs and outputs of medical simulations. These experiences are presented against the backdrop of work performed in a number of collaborative research projects, and currently ongoing at the Sano Centre for Computational Medicine. This project has received funding from the EU H2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 857533 and from the International Research Agendas Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science No. MAB PLUS/2019/13.
