Sumario:Baryon production is studied within the framework of quantized fragmentation of a QCD string. Baryons appear in the model in a fairly intuitive way, with the help of causally connected string breakups. A simple helical approximation of a QCD flux tube with parameters constrained by a mass spectrum of light mesons is sufficient to reproduce masses of light baryons.
